The convergence is a low cost and zero waste event. This means that self-sufficiency is a must. Please read through the information below in order to ensure you are comfortable during the event.
SITE
Holiday Acres Resort 4060 South Shore Drive, Rhinelander, Wi 54501
As you approach the resort, turn right and don’t go in the main entrance. Follow the signs to the welcome tent.
If you are not camping, you can go in the main entrance and park there. Head towards Big Pine Lodge to register and enjoy the event
REGISTRATION
Upon arriving, first check-in at the welcome tent to help us guide you into the experience of the Wisconsin Permaculture Convergence. There will be schedules and site maps at the welcome tent and it will be staffed as much as possible.
At two times, Fri 4-5pm and Sat 7:30-8:30am, it will be staffed for registration, liability waiver collection and hand stamping. Since the resort has a wedding and other activities going on, this year we will be using a hand stamp (dye made from edible berries) to indicate you paid for a ticket.
To enable permie pollination, we will also have a second stamp for those who want to indicate that they are romantically inclined.
FOOD AND WATER
Bring your own plates, bowls, cups and utensils for all meals. A washing station will be set up for you to clean your own dishes. All 6 meals are provided as a part of your ticket but some help is needed to make them as luxuriant as possible. If you are able, please bring a contribution for the pot luck meal on Friday night. Saturday morning and Sunday morning will be something like oatmeal, so if you have extra mix-ins or food to share for those meals, please do.
We are volunteer staffed so please consider volunteering to help with food prep and clean-up.
Please bring your own drinking water vessels.
CLOTHING & GEAR
The majority of the convergence is outside. Keep your eye on the weather reports to come prepared. Please keep yourselves comfortable with clothing for sunny or rainy days. In the case of rain some of the activities can be moved inside due to the wonderful facilities at Holiday Acres Resort.
Please bring your own comfortable portable chair or seat to the sessions and large community gatherings.
CAMPING AND ACCOMMODATIONS
Camping will be onsite in two fields at Holiday Acres Resort. One is farther from the action for those who want a quieter experience. Dispersion camping in the woods is also welcome. The map and signs will guide you to the camping loading/unloading area. Please move your vehicle as soon as possible to the main parking lot to make room for others to load/unload. Truck bed campers and little teardrop sized campers can go along the East side of the main camping field but spots may fill up. Enter/exit on the East side of Cabin #28.
Larger campers and people requiring camper hook-ups can rent a spot at the West Bay Camping Resort which is 1.5 miles down the road from Holiday Acres and is affiliated with them.
Resort room or cabin accommodations are also available for a discount to conference attendees. 20% off rooms and 25% off cabins for however long your reservation is - Come up for the week! Holiday Acres website
There will be bathrooms with showers available in Cabin #28 and the Big Pine Lodge. Many campers will be sharing them so short showers will be appreciated. The resort has full facilities, strong free wifi, several beaches, a pool, coffee shop, restaurant, bar, gift shop, pickleball court, etc. T Mobile service is poor at the resort and AT&T is iffy. There are canoes and kayaks available but the paddles need to be rented from the resort for a couple bucks.
If you are coming early for pre-convergence workshops you can camp for free at the resort in the same location. Bathrooms with showers will be available during that time at a cabin near the camping spot.
RESORT ACTIVITY
The resort will be operating as usual, hosting the convergence and hosting a wedding this weekend. That isn’t an issue in the least but do realize that there might be people around who aren’t attending this event.
Many of our activities will be held at the East end of the resort in Big Pine Lodge or near Cabin #28. There are private properties between Big Pine and the main resort so stay on the road unless you’re sure you are on Holiday Acres Property.
All of the woods between the resort and Tre Fisk Rd is the resort’s property. Most of the land south of Tre Fisk road is as well but be sure to not trespass on private property if you go exploring.
CHILDREN’S ACTIVITY TENT
We will have an activity tent area to keep the little ones occupied on Friday and Saturday. This is not child care, so a parent needs to be within yelling distance for children under 6.
RHINELANDER DETAILS
Rhinelander is a small city but an economic hub for a large region. Nearly anything you might need is available in town. Golden Harvest is a large organic and natural grocery store (closed on Sunday).
